full REVIEW

This week the Morningside neighbourhood welcomed Banh Mi So Good, and I was keen to try it after driving past many times.

First impressions were solid. The shop is clean, well organised, with a handful of indoor tables plus alfresco seating. The menu covers around ten bánh mì options, alongside vermicelli bowls, rice paper rolls, noodle soups (no pho or BBH here), and a few snacky extras.

I went straight for the crispy pork bánh mì ($12.50). Here are my honest thoughts:

  • The crackling didn’t quite reach the highs of some other spots I’ve reviewed, but the pork itself was juicy and well seasoned.

  • A generous swipe of butter, though I would’ve loved a little more pâté.

  • The pickled carrot could use more tang, and personally, I’m team skin-on Lebanese cucumber cut lengthwise for extra crunch over the oval-cut continental version (am I being picky?).

  • The bread, sourced from an Inala bakery, was good but needed just a touch more time under the grill for that perfect crisp.

All up, while this bánh mì isn’t a must-drive-across-town situation, it’s definitely worth stopping by if you’re local - and I’d happily return to work my way through more of the menu!
